bio

Klay Kipler (formerly Kip Kipperman) is a musician, composer, improviser, sounder, listener, and teacher currently based in Northern Colorado, by way of Boston, Berlin, Western Massachusetts, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Klay has taught music courses at Hampshire College (Amherst, MA) and Mills College (Oakland, CA), and holds a BA in Music & German from Hampshire College, as well as an MA in Music Composition from Mills College.​


Klay has studied with Pauline Oliveros, Zeena Parkins, Maggi Payne, Ellen Fullman, Fred Frith, James Fei, Roscoe Mitchell, Jamie MacDonald, Dan Warner, Christoph Cox, Roman Yakub, Junko Oba, and Marty Ehrlich.

​Interested in how personal aspects of oneself are negotiated and translated into improvisation of all kinds, they are focused on the possible healing qualities of embodying oneself and building community through sonic improvisation, body movement, dreamwork, mindfulness, learning, and political activism.

Klay believes deeply in the power of animal-friends, vegetables, cooking & baking, self-care, chamomile lavender tea, meditation, transparency, kindness, love, and listening.
